New Zealand opener Devon Conway has been ruled out of the first ODI against India at Eden Park after suffering a concussion in a collision with Matt Henry during training on Tuesday. Both players were treated on site and underwent head injury assessments; Conway was taken to hospital, where the concussion was confirmed. Henry's condition is being monitored, and he is not certain to play after recently returning from a low-grade right quadriceps tear.

New Zealand are already without Mark Chapman (hamstring) and Rachin Ravindra (shoulder) for the series. Tim Seifert, added to the squad for the whole series, is expected to replace Conway. India are without Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, and captain Shubman Gill said the short gap between the ODIs and Tests meant some Test players would miss the last two ODIs.

The first ODI is scheduled for November 4 at Eden Park, starting at 3pm local time, as part of a five-match series that serves as World Cup preparation for both sides. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner said Eden Park traditionally offers bounce for the seamers and can be 'quite swirly with the wind', making catching difficult. Gill said the ground's short straight boundaries make big hitting 'definitely very tempting', while the late start could bring more swing and seam under lights.
