South Africa turn from Australia win to Bangladesh WTC challenge
South Africa sealed a 2-1 Test series win over Australia at Newlands and have reshaped their squad for the Bangladesh series as they defend the World Test Championship title.
South Africa completed a 176-run victory over Australia at Newlands to seal a 2-1 Test series win, with Simon Harmer taking 6 for 16 as Australia were bowled out for 111 chasing 288. Australia lost eight wickets for 62, with Kagiso Rabada ripping through the top three inside seven overs.
Coach Shukri Conrad immediately turned attention to the World Test Championship, saying every series is now the biggest. South Africa face Bangladesh at the Wanderers on November 15 and at Centurion from November 23 as they defend the WTC title. Conrad noted Bangladesh's pace threat on Highveld surfaces and their recent nine-wicket win over Australia in Darwin, while Bangladesh are now coached by former South Africa assistant Malibongwe Maketa.
South Africa have dropped David Bedingham and Kyle Verreynne, with Ryan Rickelton's 101 in the second innings at Newlands keeping him as wicketkeeper. Tony de Zorzi and Zubayr Hamza have been recalled.
South Africa and New Zealand are at the top of the WTC standings, with the final set for The Oval in June.
