BCB moves to create independent complaint committee for women cricketers
The Bangladesh Cricket Board is set to form an independent complaint committee for women cricketers, with outside members, after Jahanara Alam's sexual assault allegation.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board is set to introduce an Independent Complaint Committee for women cricketers, a BCB official said, after the proposal was raised at a working committee meeting on October 28. The official said the committee had been agreed in principle but not yet approved, as it must be tabled at a board meeting.
The plan is to bring in people from outside the board so that complaints can be investigated freely. The official said there was concern that if a complaint were directed at an employee of a particular committee, members of that committee could disrupt the process.
The move follows Jahanara Alam's allegation that she was sexually assaulted by a member of the team management, after which the BCB formed an inquiry committee. The BCB also announced a BCB Complaint Committee under the High Court Division's 2009 judgement, headed by director Rubaba Dowla, to work on an independent complaint mechanism and mandatory awareness training. The new committee is unlikely to be headed by a current board director.
