Mohammad Amir rules out entering IPL auction
Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir, who has acquired British citizenship, has said he will not register for the IPL 2027 auction.
Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has said he has no intention of entering the upcoming IPL auction. In a message to Cricbuzz, the 33-year-old left-arm pacer, who has recently acquired British citizenship, ruled out registering for the IPL 2027 auction, scheduled for December 16.
“No, I’m not [registering for the auction],” Amir said in a message from Dubai. He has 159 international appearances for Pakistan: 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is, with 271 international wickets across formats.
Having acquired British citizenship, Amir could have explored registering through the England and Wales Cricket Board as a domestic player in England. He represented Trent Rockets in The Hundred as a local player rather than as an overseas recruit. On Monday, he registered for the Afghanistan Premier League player draft as a UK national.
The BCCI said on Monday that players wishing to enter the IPL auction can register through their respective overseas boards, with the registration window closing on November 23. Pakistan players have not featured in the IPL since the inaugural season, although Azhar Mahmood played in the league for a few seasons by virtue of holding a British passport.
