Leicestershire's relegation to Division Two of the County Championship has been confirmed after the Cricket Discipline Panel dismissed their appeal against a 19-point penalty for a substandard pitch. Essex will retain their Division One status for 2027.

The penalty related to Leicestershire's win over Glamorgan at Uptonsteel Grace Road on August 20-23. Match referee Ian Ramage logged 37 instances of variable bounce, and umpires Ben Debenham and Mike Burns said abandonment had been discussed. The CDP's Richard Whittam KC said Leicestershire had shown a "woeful lack of understanding" of the regulatory process and had "gambled" by not hiring lawyers for the initial hearing. Chief executive Emma White said the club was "hugely disappointed"; the club also said it was "deeply frustrating" that new evidence was not considered.
